GTU Statement on Azeri-Turkish Aggression in Artsakh and Armenia

The Glendale Tenants Union (GTU) strongly condemns the continuing large-scale military offensive (including the October 10, 2020 immediate and blatant ceasefire violation) against the Republic of Artsakh and Armenia launched on September 27, 2020 by the authoritarian regime of Azerbaijan, in direct collaboration with the current ultra-nationalist leadership in Turkey (for more historic and regional context, please see the National Lawyers Guild’s International Committee’s statement on the attacks on Armenia and Artsakh).

As a housing justice organization, GTU calls out and denounces the violence of housing instability and displacement. As an organization based in Glendale, home to a globally important Armenian diaspora center, we see a lack of tenants' rights disproportionately affecting Armenians. As part of immigrant, BIPOC, and working class communities, Armenians are being erased out of Glendale before our eyes. We see wars, destruction of homelands, genocides, and genocidal plans as part of the same pattern, but on a larger scale. We organize and defend our rights so that these experiences will not continue repeating themselves.

We join thousands of groups and organizations around the world in calling on the international community and international organizations to take urgent and effective measures for an immediate end to Azerbaijani regime aggression and to resume negotiations for the peaceful resolution of the conflict.

In particular, we call on the U.S. government—at the federal, state, and local levels—to explicitly condemn Azerbaijan’s unprovoked aggression against Artsakh and Armenia and to immediately cut all military assistance to Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Գլենդելի վարձակալների միությունը (ԳՎՄ) խստորեն դատապարտում է Ադրբեջանի
ավտորիտար ռեժիմի` Թուրքիայի ծայրահեղ ազգայնական ղեկավարության անմիջական
համագործակցությամբ 2020 թվականի սեպտեմբերի 27-ին սկսած շարունակական
լայնածավալ ռազմական հարձակումը Հայաստանի եւ Արցախի դեմ (ներառյալ 2020
թվականի հոկտեմբերի 10-ին հրադադարի ռեժիմի անհապաղ եւ բացահայտ խախտումը)։

Որպես բնակարանային արդարադատութան եւ մարդու իրավունքների պաշտպանություն
իրականացնող կազմակերպություն՝ ԳՎՄ- ն դատապարտում է բնակարանային
անկայունության եւ տեղահանության բռնությունները: Գտնվելով Գլենդելում՝ հայկական
սփյուռքի կարեւորագույն կենտրոններից մեկում, մենք ցավով ենք տեսնում, թե ինչպես է
վարձակալների իրավունքների պաշտպանված չլինելը անհամաչափորեն ազդում հայերի
վրա` որպես ներգաղթյալների, BIPOC-ի (սեւ, բնիկ, գունամաշկ) եւ աշխատավոր դասի մի
մաս: Կարծում ենք, որ պատերազմները, հայրենիքների կործանումը, ցեղասպանությունները
եւ ցեղասպան ծրագրերը նույն օրինաչափության մասն են՝ ավելի լայն մասշտաբով: Մենք
կազմակերպում եւ պաշտպանում ենք մեր իրավունքները, որպեսզի այս փորձառությունները
դադարեն կրկնվել:

Մենք միանում ենք հազարավոր կազմակերպությունների եւ խմբերի՝ կոչ անելով միջազգային
հանրությանը եւ կազմակերպություններին անհապաղ եւ արդյունավետ միջոցներ ձեռնարկել
ադրբեջանական ռեժիմի ագրեսիան դադարեցնելու եւ հակամարտության խաղաղ
կարգավորման բանակցությունները վերսկսելու համար:

Մասնավորապես կոչ ենք անում ԱՄՆ կառավարությանը՝ դաշնային, նահանգային եւ
տեղական մակարդակներում հստակորեն դատապարտել Ադրբեջանի անհիմն ագրեսիան
Արցախի եւ Հայաստանի դեմ եւ անհապաղ դադարեցնել Ադրբեջանին եւ Թուրքիային տրվող
ռազմական օգնությունը:

El Sindicato de Inquilinos de Glendale (SIG) condena enérgicamente la continua ofensiva militar a gran escala (incluso la violación inmediata y flagrante del alto el fuego del 10 de octubre de 2020) contra la República de Artsaj y Armenia lanzada el 27 de septiembre del 2020 por el régimen autoritario de Azerbaiyán, en colaboración directa con el liderazgo ultranacionalista actual en Turquía (para más contexto histórico y regional, vea la declaración del National Lawyers Guild sobre los ataques a Armenia y Artsaj [en inglés]).

Como organización de justicia de la vivienda, SIG está oficialmente denunciando y condenando la violencia a causa de la inestabilidad en la vivienda y del desplazamiento. Como organización con sede en Glendale, hogar de un centro de diáspora armenia de importancia mundial, vemos que la falta de derechos de los inquilinos afecta desproporcionadamente a lxs armenixs que forman parte parte de las comunidades de inmigrantes, BIPOC (Negras, Indígenas y Personas de Razas Oprimidas por sus siglas en inglés) y clase obrera, y los armenios son borrados de Glendale ante nuestros ojos. Vemos las guerras, la destrucción de las tierras ancestrales, los genocidios y los planes genocidas como parte del mismo patrón, pero a mayor escala. Nos organizamos y defendemos nuestros derechos para que estas experiencias no se sigan repitiendo.

En 2020, la agresión azerbaiyana-turca también es directamente en contra de la llamada de la ONU para un alto el fuego global mientras el mundo entero está luchando contra la pandemia Covid-19, haciéndose eco de la espantosa violencia económica y sanitaria que SIG ha seguido enfrentando cuando lucha por el derecho a la vivienda en un momento en que “refugiarse en el lugar” es el consejo central de salud pública.

Nos unimos a miles de grupos y organizaciones de todo el mundo para pedir a la comunidad
internacional y a las organizaciones internacionales que tomen medidas urgentes y efectivas para el fin inmediato de la agresión del régimen azerbaiyano y para que se reanuden las negociaciones para la resolución pacífica del conflicto.

En particular, pedimos al gobierno de los Estados Unidos—a nivel federal, estatal y local—que condene explícitamente la agresión no provocada de Azerbaiyán contra Artsaj y Armenia y que corte inmediatamente toda la asistencia militar a Azerbaiyán y Turquía.
